What is Touhou Project?

Touhou Project is a Doujin Game by Doujin Circle Team Shanghai Alice / Shanghai Alice Fantasy Ensemble. This term also refers to the media mix works (manga, novels, etc.) that have it as a source!

The Doujin game creation began in 1995 and was distributed at Comiket in 1996! From there, it gradually gained popularity, and grew into a popular genre with an enormous fan base as a Doujinshi work!

What’s the Story of Touhou Project Like?

Story takes place in an area somewhere in this world called 『Gensokyo 』. 『Gensokyo 』’s residents are mostly monsters and gods, and humans are the minority by far. Unlike ‘the world outside of the border,’ science does not exist and instead is filled with mystical powers like magic.

According to an interview with the author, the border that separates Gensokyo and the outer world is, 『common sense and lack thereof』. Meaning, things that has disappeared in the outside world, forgotten objects, rejected beings can exist for real in Gensokyo.

It was also mentioned that if one wishes to go to 『Gensokyo』......, there’s a need to disappear from reality. This, at the same time, is a very dangerous thought, as well.
