So today! I’ll be featuring Machikado Mazoku, whose 2nd season of anime is now set to premiere in April 2022!! It’s been serialized in MANGA TIME KIRARA! It’s a laid-back every-day-style manga (?)!!

What Is Machikado Mazoku?

Machikado Mazoku (The Demon Girl Next Door) is a Japanese four-panel manga series by Itou Izumo-Sensei. The story was initially released only as a guest author’s series. But then it went viral, ending up becoming a serialized series.

It has been collected in six tankobon volumes and 1st season of anime adaptation aired in 2019. FYI, one of the quotes from Machiko Mazoku, “Shamiko ga waruindayo.” was nominated and awarded as the internet buzzwords-of-the-year contest. By the way, no character has said this quote. (The fans just imagined that the chara would say this quote, ending up spreading out throughout Japan.)

Yep, Machikado Mazoku is this popular and so cute! I would recommend that you should watch it when you want to feel laid-back and relaxed!!

Outline of Machikado Mazoku!

The story starts off: One morning, Yoshida Yuko / Shamiko wakes to see that she has grown demonic horns and a tail!!

The main protagonist, Yoshida Yuko /Shamiko, wakes up to see that she has grown demonic horns and a tail, one morning!! Then she finds out that her family is descended from a Dark Clan. Shamiko must have taken over her ancestor’s power......!

Defeat their mortal enemies, Light Clan!
Then I can get away from this poor life!!

Shamiko’s family has now been struggled with the terrible grip of poverty because they lost the battle against the Light Clan before. To change this destiny, Shamiko is now ordered by her mother to defeat the descendant of the Light Clan. But......

The defendant of the Light Clan was super powerful.

Shamiko has suffered from a weak constitution since she was a little girl so there’s no way she can fight. When she went out to a town to find the descendant of the Light Clan...... guess what? She almost got ran over by a truck! The one who saved her then was one of the Light Clan’s descendants, Chiyoda Momo, who Shamiko was supposed to defeat!! Momo is an invincible and powerful magical girl who is even kind enough to share a piece of bread with Shamiko when she left. Is Shamiko able to defeat such an incredible girl, Momo......!?

She is the protagonist of this series.

She is in the 1st year high school student and her academic performance at school is just the average. One day, she wakes up with horns and a tail. She finds out that she is a descendant of the cursed Dark Clan, and is tasked to defeat the Light Clan. However, she is amazingly weak. Her personality is kind, serious and pure. While she keeps trying to defeat one of the Light Clan’s descendants, Momo, she ends up messing up. She always leaves, saying “Don’t think you won!” to Momo, trying to show dignity but actually, no such thing as dignity can be seen from her. Cute.

She is one of the descendants of the Light Clan, who Shamiko tries to defeat.

She tries to keep a town peaceful as a transformed magical girl. Her motto is “Fire power (physical strength) matters in the battle.” She tries to solve everything with her muscles. Her academic performance is excellent but she never tries hard unless she is in a good mood. Her personality is cool but she started to smile a lot after she became friends with Shamiko. Cute.

She is Shamiko’s ancestor.

She had been sealed in a little statue but once Shamiko woke up, she was released. She usually stays in Shamiko’s dream but she is sometimes a troublemaker, trying to take control over Shamiko’s body. Her outfit is mysterious with a quite: “My blood sugar level is dangerous.”

She is Chiyoda Momo’s ally from the same Light Clan and a magical girl as well.

She is a caring girl and so kind but she has a “curse wherein when her heartrate rises, either from happiness or anxiety, misfortune will befall the people around her.” That’s why she tries to stay calm but she is actually a coward girl. After so many things happened though, she was able to get along well with Shamiko and other friends.

You might have a serious impression by the words such as he Clan or the magical girls, but the story itself is a laid-back and relaxing~!! 1st season of Anime was so interesting so why don’t you get ready for 1st season, starting to air in April as well??
