Hi, everyone! It’s Nozaki from Doujin Republic!
Sorry for a sudden question!! Do you know the difference between the “Isekai” genre and the “Narou” genre?
I vaguely understand it but it’s hard to explain it...... These two are now-hot genres but what’s the difference? Let’s review them together!

【How Would You Answer?】What Is the “Isekai” Genre? What Is the “Narou” Genre? Is It Too Late to Ask? Let’s Learn Anime Together!

First of all, What Is the “Narou” Genre?

This genre name comes from the site Shousetsuka ni Narou, “Let’s Become a Novelist,” a site where anyone can upload their web novel to be read.
“The “Narou” genre, which we recently hear, is the novel works which are uploaded to the site called “Let’s Become a Novelist”!
(Although with under the rules), we can basically upload any genres of works in this website! We can freely read, give comments and rate them once they are uploaded!
“If they’re viewed by many people or ranked in top, they can be made into an official book too! So! We call this genre-works uploaded in “Let’s Become a Novelist,” the “Narou” genre, no matter what genres of works they can be!

Although there are more famous series in the Narou genre but now, let me explain the “Isekai” genre!

What is the “Isekai”-Tensei genre?

In the “Isekai” genre-story, they usually feature protagonists teleported or reincarnated into a fantasy world due to a special situation such as a specific accident.
They are either “reincarnated” after they die or “teleported” alive with the current memories.
(Although there are more detailed settings), the latter (with the current memories) is called the “Isekai-Tensei” genre!

In conclusion, how the “Narou” genre relates with the “Isekai” genre......?

In short (vaguely), the “Narou” genre indicates the source and the “Isekai” genre is the type (genre of the works)!
Then, why do we tend to have the same image towards these two? It’s simple! In ‘Let’s Become a Novelist,’ the ‘Isekai’ genre-stories have once gone viral!
One of the hottest series back then was (we do have some theories but) ‘Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu’. Once this series went viral in ‘Let’s Become a Novelist,’ more and more ‘Isekai’ genre-stories have been created!

What’s more? Many popular anime, movies or manga have originally come from the ‘Let’s Become a Novelist’......meaning they went viral as the ‘Isekai’ genre when they were first uploaded in the site!
That’s how (many novels serialized in ‘Let’s Become a Novelist’ went viral even outside of the site) we tend to have the same image toward both the ‘Narou’ genre and the “Isekai’ genre......!
Of course, we do have the ‘Isekai’ series that didn’t originally come form ‘Let’s Become a Novelist’! But most of the current popular ‘Narou’ genre-novels are classified as the ‘Isekai’ genre......

It was made into a live-action adaptation in Japan!
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas came from the “Narou”-genre too!

After the ‘Isekai’ genre-novels went viral, more and more series serialized in ‘Let’s Become a Novelist’ have becoming popular! Maybe some other genres in the ‘Narou’ genre might be made into anime in the future too......??

Conclusion!
The “Narou” genre is the source, whereas the “Isekai” genre is the type (the theme of the series)!

What series of “Narou” genre and “Isekai” genre do you know?
Please share that with us!
